Troll the Counter: Percy Jackson
♥
Thursday, February 6, 2014@3:23 PM
So, my friends are also voracious readers and this is our definition of fun: tricking restaurant, cafe and other establishment's staff into thinking that our names came out of a good book. Also, because they always misspell our names anyway.
Last month, we were in the Mall of Asia and when we got tired of boisterously laughing about nothing important, we decided to rest and eat at BonChon. The staff assigned in the counter asked for our name and look what she got. Okay, so Zim told them his name is Percy (quite believable and yes, a good way to start this Percy Jackson edition). Anna told them she's Aphrodite but they ended up putting just AF (which my friends find fortuitous because Anna's name is Anna Frizelle). I said, I was Thalia and they got it right even when I pronounced it as THAL-YA and not the Mexican Telenovela Queen. THA-LEE-YA. Arbin said he was Apollo and they believed him. Ayban told them he is Poseidon and they misspelled it into Posaidon (in hindsight, who would believe you are Poseidon, anyway?). Another unbelievable name is Hades, the god of the underworld but Kwesi used it anyway, look what he got: Aydes! And there's Clai... who really wanted to be near Kwesi that she chose Thanatos, the god of death. And so the counter typed in... Tan. Well, in defense of that lady, Thanatos is not even a feminine name! (Sorry, Clai!) But Phoebe proved to be the only one who doesn't belong to our universe because she picked the Roman goddess, Minerva. Okay, so this is one failed experiment but we sure did enjoy it. I'm thinking of doing a Hunger Games Edition next time. Hope it will succeed. I rarely list down things I must do for the new year, but this year is an exception. I must do it for my books.
1. Don't just buy books, READ them.
2. Follow your reading plan STRICTLY.
3. Undergo a book diet until you've read almost ALL your physical books. They already are 'exuding' loneliness.
4. De-clutter your books; cover unread/read books ASAP; buy a container if you still don't have a shelf by the first quarter of the year.
5. Buy books ONLY if they are on sale. You still have TOO MANY books and you don't have space to store them.
6. Write your book this year. GO!
7. Stop going to bookstores. Just stop. Stop checking out books. You are NOT YET allowed to buy them.

I launched The Library Mistress last year to cater to friends who keep on asking me for my ebook (pirated, yes) collection. There, I uploaded some of the books I got online for sharing, but since I realized that my blog is promoting piracy, I took it down. (Yes, I needed a couple of months to realize. Harhar)
However, as part of my 2014 New Year's Resolution (I rarely do this and it's really amusing now that I actually do have a list of things I want to do and it's all about books and my little library, really), I'm re-opening TLM as a book blog. (Me?! A book blogger? YES!) Since, this blog had been dominated by book-related posts, might as well put them on one place altogether, yes? In that way, I can also blog about other things in my life which are.... okay, give me time to think of things I do aside from reading, hoarding and staying on a desk in this part of the newsroom. So for Comments 0 #MIBF 2013 ♥ Tuesday, September 17, 2013@1:14 AM
I've been too busy for the past days because of too many things happening in our country. The only thing that save my sanity was this year's International Book Fair. I gave myself a pat on the back by buying a little over my set budget, I deserve it, I guess....
And yes, because...
A happy hoarder!

Never had I imagined that I'd be able to say aloud that I'm a bibliophile. Simply because... I used to be such a lazy reader, been engrossed in my writing (for the campus paper) that I sew myself shut and steered away from book stores. Perhaps, because I've always been so broke as well. Or... maybe, just maybe because I've always want to project myself as someone so slick and cool that I try to mask my inner addiction, sniffing books.
That's me! The girl on the left and this was when our school had been featured in the Manila Bulletin way, way back.
That is why back in 2009, when the only purpose of Facebook tagging is to tag your friends in photos like this:
A friend of mine, Sarah, tagged me as the "bookworm" and I ended up contesting it, because I am not a bookworm. But these friends know me from inside out because we practically grew up together, having been classmates since Junior Casa. They know how I loved the library back then, how the student assistants hated me for always borrowing books, how the librarian issued me almost four library cards every year because I always use up the columns provided. For a 10 year old, I really was aiming for a Matilda, am I not? Haha.
So, I don't know why and how I lost the interest in books, it just happened, I had this way too long reading slump then I just stopped. I didn't even read comics, even Kiko Machine albeit my friends back then are shoving it up my butt. But whatever happened to me back then is... history, I'm now glad that I'm back to my Matilda-like self (still sans the psychokinetic powers though). ♥

Before I hit CTRL+A+Backspace.... I was telling a crappy story on why only few of my friends know how I love Ricky Lee. Crappy because I was writing like my 11 year old self again -- long, flowery and too detailed. Not to mention... INCOHERENT. Yes, I can admit anytime that I used to be a scatterbrain with ideas here and there, with a train of thought crazier than 9 and 3/4.
Believe me, I've changed but lack of sleep really tortures my brain. If my brain waves can be measured by lines and graphs, it would definitely spell a downward spiral. Now, I can't even think straight but I really have to share this.
Earlier today, (and yes, this is because I've seen his 'Himala' interview and footage too many times because I spent almost the whole day at the editing bay) I've thought of things I'll do once I see the regal Ricky Lee.

There will be a book signing, including Trip to Quiapo even if it isn't a novel. Some chats and I'd definitely ask someone to take our photo.
Then, I suddenly thought that I maybe was just thinking aloud or that I'm planning something too impossible to happen anytime soon. So, I let it go, went home to get some clean clothes and take a long and refreshing shower.
Few minutes after the hour of ten, I arrived in the office and while I was rushing because I'm practically and technically late because the call time is 10:00 PM, I saw someone standing in front of the newsroom door talking to someone on the phone, he looked up for a while to greet me with a smile as I dashed through him, my instant reaction was a "Hi, hello Sir *smile*" and I did that like how an 11-year old would do it. It took a while before it hit me that the guy talking to the phone was Ricky Lee. It actually took me a second look because five minutes after seeing him smile at me, he was still there talking on the phone.
And the catch? That was the end of the story. Really. Yes, end of story. I did nothing. My brain wasn't working. I wanted to get his number but what for. I blamed fate for being such an annoying creature (good thing she isn't). All I can think of those moments is: I just wanted to sleep. P.S. I know for a fact that I will see him again, and by that time, I'd be ready with all my books and a reliable cam! Lately, I have been thinking of what I will do with my life (aside from working for ANC, of course). I've thought of pursuing Law which had been my ultimate plan since I was a kid but I figured that out months ago, I'd give law school a chance after my 25th birthday. I've also planned to embark on different causes, I vowed my support to an Anti-Bullying group recently and I also am thinking of going back to teaching unfortunate kids (that is, if my busy schedule will permit me to). I know, I tend to sometimes overestimate my capability and mismanage time. If only... If only I have all the time in the world. But, we can all dream, right? And I dream to add this up on my bucket list...You see, now that every shop in Quezon City uses brown paper bags, it really is hard to determine what's inside the package. Almost every week, I carry a couple of bags with me back to the office garnering a lot of judging eyes from colleagues and the whole office neighborhood. I really was puzzled at first. I mean, it's not from some "pricey" store or something, but then I realized people might have been mistaken. They must thought I've been carrying a bunch of food! And when Kuya Patrick once blurted, "Grabe naman ang dami mong pagkain!" (Wow! You have a lot of food) my hunch was confirmed. With my deep fascination with the printed word and my utmost desire to be a part of a cause greater than I am... I was inspired to build up a bookstore like what this teen did to build up his College fund. I have entrepreneur genes, and though, I've only been entrepreneurial when I was about five to eight... I think that would suffice. I will, on the other hand, gather up the proceeds to build up a library adjacent to the shop for the kids I'll be tutoring, other funds will go to school supplies and maintenance. I really hope to make this possible one day. I WILL MAKE THIS POSSIBLE SOON.
